How Can I Win People for Christ

Did Christ have a longing to win others into God’s kingdom?

When Jesus had warned the teachers of the law that God’s judgment would come upon then because they were so hypocritical and rejected the salvation that God was offering them, he said:

“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings. But you were not willing.” Matthew 23:37

“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.” Luke 19:10

How can I develop this desire to win people for Christ?

This is an easy question to answer – pray for this gift of the Holy Spirit. If we recognize that the Lord Jesus had this love for others and that I lack this, then ask him for it. Haven’t we been promised:

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of him.” 1 John 5:14-15

“And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19

When we look at people, constantly remember that they are either saved or unsaved, wheat or tares, in the light or in the dark – there is no middle position.

“Whoever believes in him (Jesus) is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have no believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” John 3:18

“If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.” Revelation 20:15

Is there anything I must do to prepare for this work?

Yes, you must get to know the Bible and be able to use it to show people their problem as God sees it, to show them who Jesus is and how he can save them, and to show them what it means to open their life to the Saviour, what it means to live with Christ day by day and how to overcome the difficulties that will be thrown our way.

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15

All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17

“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” 1 Peter 3:15

“Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.” Romans 10:17

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.” Colossians 3:16

The Bible emphasizes that knowing Scripture equips believers to share the gospel, answer questions about their faith, and guide others toward salvation in Christ. Passages such as Romans 10:17, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, and Acts 17:2-3 illustrate how Scripture is a powerful tool for evangelism, making a knowledge of it essential for Christians who seek to win others for Christ.
